◆和泉国の室堂村には光明皇后にまつわる伝説が残されています。『和泉国村々名所旧跡附』の室堂村の項に「字を照田･光田という田が2ヵ所ありこれは光明皇后の田地と伝えられ近所には小宮があり金剛寺と号し光明皇后の寺と伝えられている。
光明池の名前の由来である「光明皇后」は、701(大宝元年)にこの地に生誕したという伝説があり、和泉市国分町にある「国分寺」にも生誕地と伝える碑が建てられています。光明皇后はこの国分寺の高僧と鹿の間に生まれた女児で、時の権力者藤原不比氏の養女となり都で育てられたという。この女児がこの地を去るとき、母の鹿が悲しみながら娘を見送ったといわれるのが「女鹿坂（めまさか）」の地で、現在ではバス停の名として残っているとのことです。
◆この辺りはニュウタウン造成時に残された自然林もあり散策のとき「イヌビワ」を見つけました。

◆桧尾千塚跡は新桧尾台周辺に点在していた古墳を一か所に移築してモデル古墳として「泉北メモリアルホール」の西側に公開したものです。現在は後を残すのみで古墳と見極めるのは難しい状態となっていました。
