小雨の降る中、櫻井神社の無形民俗文化財に指定されている「上神谷（にわだに）のこおどり」を見て来ました。到着するとすでに踊りの始まりを待つ人で輪が出来ており、私も傘を差さず輪に加わりました。雨乞いの踊りから始まったとされ、櫻井神社の秋祭りに奉納される神事舞踊は、国宝の拝殿前で鬼や天狗を中心に鉦と太鼓で踊る古典芸能です。堺市唯一の国指定無形民俗文化財に指定されています。奉納に際し、堺市の竹山市長のあいさつがありました。
祭りの帰り、回り道したあぜ道で猛暑で開花の遅れていたが鮮やかに咲いた「彼岸花」を見つけました。
